The Making of the Roundup for Autism

In 1988, Bobby Norris was looking for autism specific services for his first-born daughter. At the time Autism was diagnosed at 1-10,000 children according to the Center for Disease Control and services were not readily available. Bobby found the Autism Treatment Center working out of a small building, and they gave him hope. That hope turned in to a mission for Bobby’s generous heart and philanthropic spirit and prompted him to start the Roundup for Autism. His plan was to raise funds to support the vital programs and services at the Autism Treatment Center. He produced an event at his ranch in Burleson, TX consisting of a one day cutting and roping where he raised $5,000 that was presented to the Autism Treatment Center. Since then the event has grown into major fundraising events through the year, spanning the state of Texas. Today, Roundup is one of Texas' largest fundraisers for the Autism Treatment Centers of Texas and has just celebrated it’s 35th year!
Roundup, in partnership with the Lone Star Pony Express, one of Roundup’s biggest supporters, holds fundraising events across Texas throughout the year. Events include the Lone Star Pony Express BBQ Cook-off at the Winch Ranch in Montgomery, TX, the Lone Star Pony Express Golf Tournament in Houston, TX and the Lone Star Pony Express Crawfish Boil in Katy, TX. The Roundup’s biggest event held every September starts with a Kick-Off Party at Billy Bob's in the Fort Worth Stockyards, followed by A Night in the Stockyard's, cowboy chic attire, at the Hotel Drover, Ft Worth, TX. Toward the end of the year is a 3 day sorting at Somervell County Expo Center in Glen Rose, TX.
Producing these events takes dedication, perseverance, organization, all types of talents, visionaries, time and sponsors! In other words, it takes an army!
